Infant Critically Injured As Driver Flees Fatal Crash On East 13th Avenue
A horrific collision on Friday night has left a community reeling after a 19-year-old driver allegedly ran a red light, resulting in a fatality and a critically injured infant. Aurora Police Department reports that Jonathan Garcia was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. at the intersection of East 13th Avenue and North Peoria Street. Garcia, reportedly speeding in a Chevrolet Trailblazer, failed to stop at a red light and T-boned a Volvo sedan. Authorities believe Garcia may have been under the influence of drugs and possibly alcohol.
The driver of the Volvo was pronounced dead at the hospital. A one-year-old passenger in the same vehicle sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

Following the crash, Garcia reportedly fled on foot but was apprehended by officers using a drone and surveillance footage. He is currently being held without bail at the Arapahoe County Jail. This senseless act has shattered lives and serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of reckless driving.
