Gerry Moore Navan, Meath Obituary-Founding Member Of North East Football League
The North East Football League and the wider sporting community of Meath are in mourning following the sudden passing of Gerry ‘Muller’ Moore of Academy Street, Navan, on Friday, January 30th, 2026.
Gerry was an ever-present and indispensable figure at the MDL grounds for over forty years, serving as the league’s official groundsman. His dedication ensured the smooth running of the facility, and he was always on hand to help, whether providing a dressing room, fetching bibs and footballs, or even resolving a kit clash. His passion for the game and love for the community it fostered were evident to all.
More than his invaluable work, Gerry will be remembered for his warm, welcoming spirit. A friendly face with a huge smile, he was rarely without an offer of a cup of tea for anyone who crossed his path in the grounds’ kitchen. This kindness, coupled with his good humour, defined his decades of service.

In his youth, Gerry was a renowned footballer, playing soccer with Robinstown FC and winning a Meath Gaelic football championship with Bective in 1982. He transitioned seamlessly from player to pillar of the administrative and operational side of the game, serving as a former Chairman of the Meath & District League and the current Chairman of the NEFL.
Predeceased by his parents John and Margaret, brothers Val and Jim, and auntie Ainne, ‘Muller’ will be profoundly missed by his family, his wide circle of friends, the NEFL committee, and the entire footballing community he served so selflessly.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
