The Central Oregon community mourns the profound loss of Dr. Tyler Newton, a dedicated veterinarian whose skill and compassion touched countless lives, both human and animal. Our deepest thoughts are with his family, the team at Tumalo Ridge Equine Veterinary Services, LLC, his staff, and all who were fortunate to know him. He will be greatly missed.
Dr. Newton’s journey to veterinary medicine was as unique as his character. Born in Portland, he spent much of his life in Southern California. He first earned a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from UC Santa Barbara, but his passion for horses led him to Montana’s Cowtown Horseshoeing School. He worked as a farrier for five years, a testament to his hands-on, practical approach.
This foundational experience with horses guided him to the University of California, Davis, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. An active leader in equine practitioner groups, Dr. Newton combined academic excellence with a horseman’s heart.
He brought his expertise to Central Oregon, where he joined the team at Advanced Power Equine Medical Center (APEMC). Beyond his clinic, he was a devoted family man, enjoying photography, hiking, riding, and precious time with his wife and two daughters.
Dr. Tyler Newton’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication, profound kindness, and a deep love for the animals he healed and the community he served. His absence leaves a void that will be felt for years to come.
